New Otto Unit
So I've been looking at the most important parts of DE which are obviously the changes to some of the church cards.
One of Otto's techs in their mosque has changed from 15 Jans for 1kw to both a new unique unit and a upgrade to jans all in one go with the cost being 2500 wood or 1000 wood with the otto age 3 church card.
Firstly all otto heavy inf gets an extra .5x vs cav in melee mode bringing their overall multiplier to 2.5x so they're better late game vs Cav which is a nice change for TR or whatever who cares.
It also Ships 15 Niazim Fusilers and changes all your janisary shipments to be Nizam Fusilers which are probably one of the weirdest units in the game for a number of reasons.
- They have 0.2 Siege resist, the only units in the game with siege resist apart from wagons type units (Travios, outpost wagons etc) and units when in cover mode (which gives an invisible .5SR)
- They have 4.25 speed so the same as the carolean and the same speed boost in Melee mode.
- Their multipliers change depending on their stance:
----- In volley mode they have 24 ranged attack with 12 range and 2x vs all inf.
----- In staggered mode they have 24 ranged attack with 12 range and 2x vs artillery and siege units.
----- In defensive mode they have 24 ranged attack with 12 range and 2x vs Cav and 1.6x vs cyotes.
----- In melee mode they get a speed boost of +1 speed.
----- In stand guard mode they have 24 ranged attack with 15 range and no multipliers.
- They also auto upgrade depending on their age and scale off veteran stats.
Overall they're just a weird unit that probably is very powerful with good micro but still won't get seen just thought it was very odd.

another untrainable otto unit.... they want to weaken the trainable spahi campaign by making us choose

Re: New Otto Unit
You can at least have as many of these as you want as there's a inf 9 card in age 4.helln00 wrote:another untrainable otto unit.... they want to weaken the trainable spahi campaign by making us choose

At least now we can push for the infinite spahi card to be real, maybe, sometimes....Riotcoke wrote:You can at least have as many of these as you want as there's a inf 9 card in age 4.helln00 wrote:another untrainable otto unit.... they want to weaken the trainable spahi campaign by making us choose

Re: New Otto Unit
Worth noting that this card changes jan shipments to niazim fusiliers. So your 8 (and potentially 6) jans in age 3 become niazim fusiliers.
The different damage dealt depending on the stance is super interesting. Although the 2500w price does not make a strategy surrounding these units sound viable.

Re: New Otto Unit
the changing multipliers and even range feels far too complicated for me

Re: New Otto Unit
it's not too hard to get them with 700w and 1k wood, then sending 8 and 6 card. They pretty much beat anything if microed well but it's still a gimmick.

Re: New Otto Unit
Hmm this whole "replaces jans with Nizam Fusiliers" thing makes a ton of sense historically. Nizam units replaced Janissaries after the Janissaries revolted. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nizam-i_Djedid_Army

New otto meta, after jan abus, jan falc, and jan huss, you will be overjoyed to discover full Nizam fusilliers.
ESOC : came for the game, stayed for the drama.
Re: New Otto Unit
nah new otto meta will be gren abus, who needs barracks anymore when you can go full explosives madness with 3 upgrade cards

Re: New Otto Unit
I wish they could have given great bombard more Turkish looking texture similar to this Nizam unit.
Re: New Otto Unit
It's unavailable in a non-treaty game, considering that cavalry archers are actually good units. 2500w is ridiculous.

Re: New Otto Unit
these look like fun units.... my problem will be, do I use my shipments for spahi, these guys or great bombards... Otto may be my new favorite civ again.

Re: New Otto Unit
They're 1kw with the age3 church card, honestly you can pull off some builds with 26 of them with guard stats and 5 bombards for a nice timing.

Re: New Otto Unit
i like this change, it spices up otto without dramatically changing how the civ is played, and the complexity of the unit formation bonuses will really separate the wheat from the chaff in terms of APM. excited to see some OP stance-dancing.
