AOE3DE on Linux, it just works!(somewhat)
Good news Linux gamers!
The Definitive Edition runs smoothly on Linux for the most part. Only 2 suggestions I have to offer:
1. If you get a pop-up for missing DMO encoder, one solution is to use the GloriousEggroll's Proton which is easy to install and removes said issue
https://github.com/GloriousEggroll/proton-ge-custom
2. Try to lower your graphics if you find yourself succeptible to crashes. The release has optimised graphics very poorly and it shows, having memory leaks as well. Performance-wise it's on point, with consistent 55-60FPS on lowest settings for my rather average rig of a 4GHz i3 and 8GB of RAM.
Will update after the inevitable new patch is released!

Does anyone knows if it works on Windows 7 ?
ESOC : came for the game, stayed for the drama.

Have you considered Linux? :)Le Hussard sur le toit wrote:Does anyone knows if it works on Windows 7 ?
Jokes aside, overall as long as you have DX11 it should be playable, tho you should still be able to upgrade to Windows 10, provided you have a genuine Windows 7 copy.
Now, back to Linux!

I've wanted to switch for years but I fear I'm too clueless about computers for that.

Nah. Linux Mint is very beginner friendly. I highly suggest you burn it onto a USB stick and try it out!Le Hussard sur le toit wrote:ShinkuroYukinari wrote:Have you considered Linux? :)Le Hussard sur le toit wrote:Does anyone knows if it works on Windows 7 ?

You see that exactly the problem : how do you "burn it into a usb stick " ? What does it even mean ?ShinkuroYukinari wrote:Nah. Linux Mint is very beginner friendly. I highly suggest you burn it onto a USB stick and try it out!Le Hussard sur le toit wrote:Show hidden quotes

Simple. You download Linux Mint from their official websiteLe Hussard sur le toit wrote:You see that exactly the problem : how do you "burn it into a usb stick " ? You get a spare USB stick and install something like Balena Etcher on it
https://www.balena.io/etcher/
And then you just follow what Etcher tells you :)

I'd say stick to the OS you are acquainted with if that's the case.Le Hussard sur le toit wrote:ShinkuroYukinari wrote:Have you considered Linux? :)Le Hussard sur le toit wrote:Does anyone knows if it works on Windows 7 ?
