I’ve played games as brit vs swe, and I managed just fine with musks vs caro.

I don’t see japan having that much of a hard time using ashi/yumi?

Ashis do fine and keep in mind that the only way Swe can truly counter Ashi is by making an Artillery Foundary, as far as Commerce age goes...

I don't think Japan has ever had a problem with going 600w 4v 600c with a 5 Ashi semi and not losing the shrines? The only tricky thing is taking out the culv+falc shipment but I feel like yabusame are the perfect unit to use vs swe.

Can't Caroleans step-fire vs Ashis, i.e, they advance in melee mode, but they switch to ranged mode once they get in close, let off a salvo, and then go back to melee?

It's actually closer to 42 vs 35 Carols vs Ashis. The Carols drop quickly as you close in, but by the 5th salvo you should have 20 Carols vs 20 Ashi and be virtually in melee range.

@Inst again this is a problem of pathing in AOE3. You can try to get your carolean force walk into opponents ashis, but only 1-2 rows will collide (if you click behind ashi, caroleans will try to walk around the ashis on one side while maintaing formation). After that you have to do micro management to get other caroleans to proceed with the surround on the sides. All the while ashis are pulling away and ensuring that only the first row remains in melee range. Not to mention that you are not gonna switch your caroleans from melee to ranged fire perfectly and you are bound to miss out on potential melee or ranged hits depending on how you prioritize your manouver. That is to say that as long as the Japan player is not AFK, you are not gonna get a perfect trade and so ashis should win. Even musks should win caroleans.

Japan has aggressive colo play too, especially when DE gives you 300w start every game. Build 2 shrines asap, and a ashi+club rush is hard to deal with for Sweden.
