Best Players of all time
Re: Best Players of all time
Yeah^^
We also have to keep in mind that most "old" top players didn't actually play the game for that long. IIRC many quit in 2008, the game came out in late 2005, so many only played the game for like 2-3 years - and not all of that on a high level.
Many of today's pros have played the game much, much more than the old guard. And aside from talent, meta and being rusty, I feel just playing for many years can make you really good (Aiz is a good example of that as well IMO) - altho ofc there are also noobs who played for 10 years lol.

Yes of course, old players were maybe more talented but except H2O and Samwise, no longevity and they'd get stomped by the new players who've been playing for 10 years.

first it's hard to compare skills on "differents" game, (nilla, twc, tad, esoc patch)

Agree with @gibson @Garja , about the tournament results being a direct indicator.
I for one never won really anything. It's kinda mind blowing that boneng and acergame are more succesful than me with one pk win and one 2nd place in esoc tournament. Obviously wouldnt consider them to be on goat list. I think Nagayumi at prime would still mop the floor with many players in the OP's list. AND he has many championships in his belt from JP tournaments. I'd personally put him on zuta's B tier list on a high place.
Forgotten, underrated player like you could say for Challe. Glad zuta and bobu added him, guy was a beast 100%.
For the teamgame goat it's either veni or aklak.

That's why tournaments are just an indicators. You're better than boneng and acergame.princeofkabul wrote:Agree with @gibson @Garja , about the tournament results being a direct indicator.

Re: Best Players of all time
nagayumi was the best japanese player by far. boneng is a close second but nobuman, takuman and shmras, although good at their peak, are far behind.Victor_swe wrote:Maybe i missed some of the japaneese players. Nobuman deserves extra credit for being just a wholesome dude

I must have completely missed him. Also remember boneng being a complete noob but i guess people can improve. Im also a bit confused as to so many mentioning acergame. Maybe i missed his improvement aswell.[Armag] diarouga wrote:nagayumi was the best japanese player by far. boneng is a close second but nobuman, takuman and shmras, although good at their peak, are far behind.Victor_swe wrote:Maybe i missed some of the japaneese players. Some of the japanese guys were very good in teamgames too. Kumruke (who is GG_Magic, vanilla top player), Roripo or that x27255052 person.princeofkabul wrote:For the teamgame goat it's either veni or aklak.
andri15 or Germanwarmachine were also always the ones dominating team games when I played some.

Acergame is interesting because I wouldn’t consider him to be a top player mechanically. But during the couple of ESOC tournaments he played his mentality was much better than everyone he played against. I swear everyone he played against partially defeated themselves with how easily tilted they were.Victor_swe wrote:I must have completely missed him. Acergame also was not predictable. He always had some new or weird strategy up his sleeve. It was this plus his winning mentality that got him 2nd place in that tournament, and it’s something that many other players lack.
