I think people care too much about tournament results. It makes sense because it's the only objective factor. I've played all the 2015+ top players though, and I give more credit to the 50-100 games I've played against some players than to tournament results.
The drawback is that it's very subjective.

I agree with this. Now people will come forward and say "well, in tournaments, there is pressure, so it should count more heavily towards your reputation and skill" but think about it:
Tournaments are rare, like only a couple per year.
You are only being judged by a handful/dozen of games. I'd look at the bigger picture.

Ye, that's the big issue. People are judged on 20-30 games, and if they lose a series 3-4 instead of winning then they're much worse than the guy who won 4-3.

Nice list. There is no way you can put blackstar below me though, and I'd argue that blackstar is more talented than _H2O. _H2O really put a lot of work into his game (he played jap mirrors for 6 months before the WCG), blackstar was pure talent.

I think it was the other way around with him always challenging and taunting me trying to get me on TAD, I never refused to play it though I just thought the game was inferior in many ways and pretty boring with Japan being the only viable civ at high ranks at those times

Mediocre? I managed to take 2600~ elo and pr 46~ish which was top 10 something in a month playing mostly Japan (a civ I have never played before) so yeah I wouldn't call them mediocre and this was probably in 2010 or 2011 since I barely played in 2012

Seriously though it could be fun to see but I don't have the time to put in on this game anymore, I have no idea how good these "new school" players are but didn't H2o stomp some tournament recently? and Samwise was 1st on ladder last time I checked (not sure if ladder ranking matters at all but)
