Mediocre? I managed to take 2600~ elo and pr 46~ish which was top 10 something in a month playing mostly Japan (a civ I have never played before) so yeah I wouldn't call them mediocre and this was probably in 2010 or 2011 since I barely played in 2012

I guess it's a mix of you being good and people being bad against Japan back then.

Iro, Otto (yes, I don't care about no TP maps frankly), India, Germany (again, fuck no TP), Russia, and arguably Aztec and China are overall better civs than Japan in my opinion.

No way Russia or Germans are better than japan. Aztecs get screwed heavily depending on the map (Japs has ways to turn the game into a lame fest), India is sort of even with Japan specifically, China probably a bit of a counter and that's it.
Otto only win in theory, depending on map I think Jap can beat Otto. Iro also can get screwed by the map.

1. India vs Japan is evenish on the EP. I'd argue that it's Japan favoured but some people disagree. Besides, India got nerfed harder than Japan (190 HP is massive)
2. Germany on the RE with EP maps used to demolish Japan. On a TP map it's simply not close, but ok, you have no TP maps.
3. I'm talking about overall strengh, so India against the other civs matters.

Yesterday inter was said that German's xp is bugged so that's why they are tier 1 rn ,they get shipment a lot faster or something.

They take X% of XP more than other civs to get a shipment. It was supposed to be 10% more for a total cost of 110% XP, but instead it is only 7% more for 107% XP

But idk, uhlan hp seems more impactful, although both things obviously reinforce each other

Well 180 hp uhlans was always ugly but it sort of worked. I can't really judge if it's too big a buff just yet. But I think with the proper xp multiplier instead of the buggy one, and with the coin start instead of other civs wood start, ger shouldn't be too strong.

Having mostly played ger and fr on DE, fr seems superior to me. I know people will disagree but that's probably just because they don't understand how to play fr. Basically, if in age 1 you don't either 12/10 (if you get a ~70f treasure at least), or 13 up with TP (with a wood treasure), or 14 (almost) idleless with TP + HD (if you get 50g at least), you're playing the civ wrong and thus can't judge its strength. These age 1 openings just make fr that much faster, and you get one of the aforementioned treasures in 99% of your games. Ger doesn't have that luxury in age 1.

Extra starting 100f 100w is just insane for japan, while the coin start for germany is mediocre. I don't understand why ger would now "destroy" japan, while it wasn't a good match up on EP. Maybe it's a bit ger favoured now with buffed uhlans, but why would it be one-sided?

You have to rely on wws just the same, it's not like uhlans with 10 more hp will cover your skirms if he's got ashi + nagis + clubs. Yeah you got a bit more shit with better xp rate but he also got an OP crates start like I mentioned. Jap basically ages up to colo before ger now.

nagi hp card nerfed and clubs nerfed though. From what I've seen germs look strong and so does japan. I'd slightly favour german here.

About Samwise, I think I missed him "growing up" in the community, but when I came back some years later he was #1, IIRC I did play 1v1's to win some tournaments there but I cant remember practicing a lot with Samwise, I think it was cause Mayhem was a sore loser just like h2o and they kept Samwise away from me but Sam and I still had a connection between us and good friendship.

Why so sore Challe? And how can you put me in the same boat as H20 when it comes to being a sore loser!
