Pretty sure if that was the case, I'd almost never match a low level player, because he'd match against someone closer to his rank before 7 minutes. There should be plenty of games at lower Elo levels.
Yet whenever I wait for 7+ minutes, I directly find someone, and sometimes they're actual PR 10s.

yes, i think this has something to do with it. i've played some unranked lobby games on asian servers, and those seem to lag more for me than any matchmaking game

Yesterday I played rdm games. QS found a 2v2 game. Upon loading, I noticed that I would be playing against @Mitoe and @H2O_ . This search system is a failure. I am ranked 150 and am assigned to a team with a player ranked 1600. This is not normal I believe.

Unfortunately that is the norm with aoe3. I wonder if perhaps H2O hasn’t played many team games and as such has a lower elo?

Playing within 150 ladder positions should be and is completely normal (even with the playerbase we have), it's hard enough to get a game as it is without the top 50 only being allowed to play other top 50's.

In 1v1 I’d agree fully. It would be nice to know how these things are calculated as well. I’m not even sure how elo is calculated.
Edit: After chekcing leaderboards and seeing two top 20 players matched against 150 and 1600 on the leaderboard it seems as though the matchmaking is pretty shit.
