@howlingwolfpaw i saw you mention this on twitch chat so I'll give you credit where credit is due for a fun idea.
Imagine a showmatch with the gimmick that all the matches are fixed and structured around historical wars and battles. This might capture the interest of a lot of casual players on the periphery who bought the game for the historical aspects but have never really gotten interested in competitive play. The idea would be to introduce a very small degree of role-playing / historical setting by the casters while also creating some interesting, lesser-seen matchups. The challenge would be to make sure that both players get an equal chance to play favorable matchups, while still challenging players to create unique strategies.
I think rather than a full tournament it might just be fun to have two players do a play-all-5 as a one time show match:
game 1: The Aztec Conquest. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spanish_c ... tec_Empire. Spain vs. Aztecs, on Mexico. Could also do Spanish vs. Inca and set it in on the map Andes.
game 2: The French and Indian War https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/French_and_Indian_War. France vs. British on Hudson Bay
game 3: The Sino-Russian Border Conflicts https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sino-Russ ... _conflicts. China vs. Russia on Siberia.
game 4: The Ottoman-Portugal War https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ottoman%E ... 80%931559). Ottomans vs. Portugal on C E Y L O N. or i guess fertile crescent if you're a coward.
game 5: The Second Northern War (North American theater) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Second_No ... New_Sweden. Dutch vs. Sweden on New England
i'm sure people can come up with more scenarios. can you think of more?

I like this. Tired of seeing mirrors, and OP civs switched out each game.
Makes for some thing interesting and new that can be done.

Great idea ! Let's add more.
The Chinese-Japanese war on Korea
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Japanese_ ... 80%931598)
English-Spanish war on Carib.
I think it would be cool if our map makers made a few custom maps for wars between Europeans powers too.

ESOC : came for the game, stayed for the drama.
Re: the historical wars cup
i know maybe the very. serious. competitive. gamers. might poo poo this but I think it would be a fun community event, with casters giving a prepared historical narrative before each match. i think custom maps might be too ambitious for something like a saturday showmatch though, and there are plenty of historical maps to use in the already existing game
Re: the historical wars cup
No English version of this, but Vienna was under the siege of the Ottomans, but then the winged hussars arrived. Tho no fitting map for this I guess.
