$750+ King of the Hill Tournament
King of the Hill Tournament
The King of the Hill (KOTH) clan is proud to announce the first ever FFA King of the Hill tournament for Age of Empires 3 DE! We have partnered with ESOC to deliver a cash prize tourney with a minimum $750 cash prize, funded by members of the KOTH clan. We believe that King of the Hill is a greatly underrated gamemode with brand new strats and a fresh new meta. If you're still not convinced, enjoy this exciting video we made:

As you can see, King of the Hill is the best gamemode you've never seen in a big tourney. Well, that's about to change. Tomorrow evening (02/20/21) signup information and tourney rules will be available. Stay tuned for updates![/size]

"We have partnered with ESOC"
does it mean it's your tournament, or esoc tournament ?

Re: $750+ King of the Hill Tournament
does they changed anything to koth from legacy?
Re: $750+ King of the Hill Tournament
just some quality of life stuff. Can't like, delete the fort, and it does a better job of letting people know when the hill changes hands
Re: $750+ King of the Hill Tournament
ah that suck, they should've make a rules where you can't attack ennemy's base, like for treaty but not for build, just for the attack, koth are funny when the only fight are around the fort, when it's not like that that it's just a shitty normal ffa (or team game) with a convertible fort

Re: $750+ King of the Hill Tournament
When we play, we sort of make a gentlemen's rule for not attacking people's bases. . . In the tournament we're going to be making some pretty line-in-the-sand rules about what can and can't be attacked, ie: forward bases are fair play, but main bases aren't. . . You can raid as much as you want. . . things like that. It needs to be competitive. . . there needs to be punishment for greedy strats. . .
However, in our lobbies, we just play to make it fun for us and super casual. So we change the rules a bit.

no no don't worry :)
Re: $750+ King of the Hill Tournament
seems kinda silly if you are banned from raiding the home base, doesn't that entirely change the game modeEadrielas wrote:When we play, we sort of make a gentlemen's rule for not attacking people's bases. . . Raiding is allowed in the tournament, whether it be at the home base or forward base. It's more about destroying buildings. We're looking to encourage fighting over the hill, and prevent people from teaming up and just attacking someone's base. You can attack villagers in the main base, by all means, we're just drawing the line at buildings.

Re: $750+ King of the Hill Tournament
Define main base, I mean yes the TC limit is what you most likely mean. But how do in game you decide that. Some buildings maybe on border and it might be difficult to differentiate.
Fine line to something great is a strange change.

@Eadrielas destroying houses is a form of raiding

Re: $750+ King of the Hill Tournament
The map, especially in a 6 player game, is quite large. It will be quite obvious what "main base" vs "forward base" is. Yes, buildings on the border might make it difficult to differentiate, but as all competitive events, there will be a group of people who will arbitrate over any possible rule breaks. The goal is to encourage fighting over the hill, not each other's bases.

Can't wait to build a building on the border and then rant about losing it.

I mean, I can see how one might be frustrated with it. The biggest concern is the TC being destroyed, effectively taking someone out of the game entirely. . . depending on when it happens. We want to make sure games are won and lost at the hill, not in someone's base.
