Is AOE3 DE overthrowing AOE2?

AOE3 DE has been averaging at peak 7.5k+ users concurrent in the past 3 days in steam and will probably come close to peaking at 10k during the weekend.

AOE2 (Non DE version) has been below 7.5k in the same span.

Encouraging thing is we are not seeing the same drop off as we did on release day.

With further DLCs on the way...Is AOE3 DE on the way to becoming the 2nd most popular game in the franchise after AOE2 DE?

It's plausible ,the USA hype train dragged the attention of a lot people ,i hope devs are aware this was a huge impact for aoe3 de ,remember aoe2 HD? ppl started coming back when the game got update ,same thing can happen to aoe3 but not so soon but in the long term could be winning the player base if they keep releasing hype content.

AoE2 is for losers, AoE3 is now the Chad of the Age of Empires universe. I always believed in it and welcomed the addition of the USA directly when it was announced: awesome civ, perfect fit. People deservedly flock to play this game as it finally matured enough to make it a reasonable choice for the spare time activities of the masses.

With AoE2:DE:DE releasing in a few months, that seems unlikely /s

at the end of the day all of this is irrelevent considering that age of empires online is the superior game
