Haudenosaunee voices
I tried to get into this civ a bit but I cannot bare how silent they are compared to everything else. I feel like I am playing under water. Does anyone else find that off-putting?

Re: Haudenosaunee voices
Note that there is a mod that can be used in multiplayer, which restores the voices of the hauds and the lakotas to how they were in the TAD
I think it's called "Original Voices Pack"

Re: Haudenosaunee voices
Maybe use a mod to replace it? I know many people are using a mod to replace japanese voice with that in TAD

Re: Haudenosaunee voices
Lakota is the same, same voice for every unit :/
Re: Haudenosaunee voices
the least they could've done would have been letting the voice actor make 30ish samples, dunno how that got past the devs.
its so incredibly tiring, it takes out so much tempo..

There is a mod to change the voices to their original lines. The only downside of using this mod is that you will be branded a racist for disrespecting native whispering traditions.

Re: Haudenosaunee voices
Ugh there’s no problem with the voice for it being one unit, or at least not that much. The issue is that it’s one voice for every single unit with no exception at all except female villagers.
It annoys me a little because the idea of being more aware of native Americans and others is a good cause but it gets corrupted like this mostly because they are too half assed to do a proper job of it and in the end most people hate it. What good does that friggin’ do. It’s all just seen to be doing.
For what’s it’s worth, no I don’t think you are a racist if you use the older voices even though I support trying to connect more to an often ignored minority.

Agreed, similar to replacing the mining functionality with a building that acts as a mine and taps the nearby mine. Whose lives are improved by this awful change?Peachrocks wrote:It annoys me a little because the idea of being more aware of native Americans and others is a good cause but it gets corrupted like this mostly because they are too half assed to do a proper job of it and in the end most people hate it. Re: Haudenosaunee voices
AFAIK the devs said that they were approached by those tribes and they told the devs that they never used to mine "coin". So I suppose this compromise was one found by the tribe(s) and the devs.

Re: Haudenosaunee voices
I came back to AoE with DE after a couple years and I’ve primarily been playing as Haudenosaunee. So I’ve listened to these voices way too much and I feel like the main problem with them is that they’re clearly recorded by a native speaker who isn’t a voice actor. They’re sound more like a language instructor reading to a class. I’ve mainly listened to Haud voices so I got used to it, but now its kind of jarring to listen to any other civs voice acting now because they’re all so over the top they almost sounds comedic. I’m fine with the Haud voices because I haven’t heard the other ones in four years, but I do wish they had found a native speaker from one of the six nations instead who was actually a voice actor instead of saving the effort by having their cultural consultant record the dialogue too.
I do like slapping the 25 wood building that gives a ton of LOS on each coin mine when I’m playing versus Sweden, but agreed.Mr_Bramboy wrote:Agreed, similar to replacing the mining functionality with a building that acts as a mine and taps the nearby mine. I understand the reasoning, but the solution is half-assed and lazy.Javon wrote:AFAIK the devs said that they were approached by those tribes and they told the devs that they never used to mine "coin". So I suppose this compromise was one found by the tribe(s) and the devs.
Re: Haudenosaunee voices
tbh the tribal marketplace is great, definitely my favorite DE change. Love the extra chokepoint potential in my base, love that I can stick it between my TC and a bad, far, coin mine spawn to get villagers inside faster, love the LOS, and love the free placer mines tech as a trade off for the wood cost. and now im just learning how to incorporate the new tribal marketplace BB into builds, which I think has potential.Mr_Bramboy wrote:Agreed, similar to replacing the mining functionality with a building that acts as a mine and taps the nearby mine. Its the 0.1 XP/s from each villager while gathering resources for 600f/600w. Doesn’t count idle vills or vills on the fire pit. Lakota has the same one

Re: Haudenosaunee voices
It's not like many of the actual european civilizations would walk up to some weird rock formation, start hitting it with a pickaxe to call the little chunks of rocks 'coin'. These civilizations did have some interest in stuff like gold and silver, but they were also largely looking for expensive exotic products like spices, coffee, tea, cotton etc.Javon wrote:AFAIK the devs said that they were approached by those tribes and they told the devs that they never used to mine "coin". No. The devs approached the consultant and he told them, while navigating the features, they didn't mine coin.
And instead of being reasonable they replaced some features for bad/broken/poor features to turn the DE into a National Geographic Channel work for those two tribes only and "kind of" left it to rot after feedback to improve it.
It's actually just a biased north american approach towards those two civs. Nothing else.

Re: Haudenosaunee voices
honestly I 100% still like the "idea" of 2 civs not being able to mine coin (since neither of these groups possessed any type of metallurgy), I just hate how it was implemented. free placer mines is nice tho. Of they'd actually put some thought into a modified way to obtain a third resource and made it engaging, it would have been great
