can you stop playing aoe
can you stop playing aoe
For 3 weeks I play quite a lot at aoe3 DE (> aoe4) and I feel that I have to stop a a bit or even more longer, . I haven't been to the fitness for 2 weeks and my social interactions in the real word become rare except with my family.
Today I have forced myself to go outside and I can feel that I feel different : difficulties for communicate with confidence and not so much pleasure to have social interactions..
This game can really be addictive. I was wondering how guys do you manage to deal with it. I remember poissondu44 was always stoping playing after 10pm but as for me I have never managed to do it...
But I have never been good about fixing limits to myself.
Thanks God, I have a lot of free time but I think I have to make a pause.

Re: can you stop playing aoe
If you like it and have free time, no reason to put limit. Exept if it affect the time you spend with your friend/family, which is what should matter the most.
But if you stop playing at 10pm to then watch tv until you sleep even if you don't like that, then lol

Re: can you stop playing aoe
You will not develop difficulties communicating after two weeks of heavy gaming, lol.
I've never struggled with addiction so I can't really give you any advice on that. What I would suggest is to pick up another hobby or two, or to start working more hours. There is nothing wrong with playing a lot of games as long as it doesn't affect your daily life, and by your description this appears to be the case.
If you genuinely feel like your ability to socialise is deteriorating, picking up another hobby/doing volunteer work/working out more/anything else will help you.

You can easily do both at the same time mate.draztik wrote:For 3 weeks I play quite a lot at aoe3 DE (> aoe4) and I feel that I have to stop a a bit or even more longer, . I haven't been to the fitness for 2 weeks and my social interactions in the real word become rare except with my family.

Keep on gaming but know that there must be times when you have to take a small break and do other creative things.
I Have been gaming actively since 13-14 and I am 25 now, there have been days where I played 20 hours in a row without sleeping (Witcher 3 and other addictive singleplayer RPGs)
But there have also been times when I dont play at all, its about balance.. I think for me I have found a very good balance right now.. you can easily do the same.
Re: can you stop playing aoe
Aoe3 or any rts is the best game for not wasting time. You’re in a game for 20-40 min, then you’re out and it’s done. It has natural breaks where you can decide to quit, unlike many games where it’s just never ending content that you’re encouraged to keep clicking through
Re: can you stop playing aoe
yes it is a balance to find. thanks everybody
Re: can you stop playing aoe
Just grow old enough so you're exhausted after three games max, problem solved

Re: can you stop playing aoe
This has little to do with AOE3 and mostly with you and videogames as your coping device.
It happens a lot in these days. And it happened to me as well.

My advice...practice your discipline skills.
Write down all the stuff you need to do for the day (responsibilities and things that will move you forward).
Only once u completed those should u jump on.
Video games or any hobbies can be a tool if utilised properly (in this case as a reward mechanism)
Start of small...like don't overwhelm yourself with too many "to dos"...u need to build it up.
Remember in life if your not improving everyday...even if ur just staying stagnant...Ur becoming worse because ur getting older everyday

Re: can you stop playing aoe
Can you stop playing aoe? Yes i am back to my normal sleep schedule sleeping early before 11 pm and waking up early morning ,6-7 am feels super energetic waking up early ,it feels like i can have the same effort any time in the day.
I feel like this should be the same for everyone ,i have also seen TheViper mention this on stream and practices this good habit.
I feel for you have got severe addiction ,your brain is floated with thoughts on aoe & it needs some break before it can come back to normal ,it will affect socially if thoughts still keeps lingering & wandering ,i remember i also had this addiction when i was going to school the game i played last night thoughts will last till tomo morning and even in school and can't wait to play it out again when i come back.
I have surpassed this addiction though it doesn't affect me in anyways now. i got used to it but i don't think i get heavily addicted anymore ,you can take a break in between watch some YT videos if you follow someone or watch a movie on web ,it will help for distraction and relieve your thoughts.
Nowadays i force myself to play aoe it's the other way around from your OP i play some team games with friends and that's it ,I mostly enjoy aoe as a viewer and love to watch tournaments in any game ,mostly want to do something casual which doesn't involve try hard ,try harding will result into commitment ,long term interest and at last addiction so at the you should think what's your goal in this game ? am i gonna play it for fun or go competitive the latter is what makes ppl go to non stop (i want to be the best in the game i play ) you don't need to though, just play it for fun.

Re: can you stop playing aoe
I dont know if this applies to you cause I get bored of things pretty easily but I tend to just ask myself while playing "do I want to do this right now?" and if the first thought is anything short of "yes" I just stop and just either do something else or just sit down and stare at the wall even.
It helps to practice taking decisions for me and making them actionable. And often times you can double talk yourself into going back but atleast this way you know to do it every now and again.
of course this also backfires cause I don't do much exercising cause the moment i ask myself I usually stop after short bursts.

You all need to shut up, we are on a gaming forum and not on Fox News.

Re: can you stop playing aoe
Thanks for you post, very insighfull. Yes, these last days my brain was quite floated with aoe thoughts and I think it is a signal that it is dangerous. I think it happens because I have tried recently to play at a quite competitive level. You always have to think what bo or what strategy can beat the opponent one etc...Challenger_Marco wrote:Can you stop playing aoe? I prefer to loose it a bit and play more for fun.

Sell your PC and replace it with an ultrabook that has an integrated GPU or something.

Pretty weak thing to say
If I were a petal
And plucked, or moth, plucked
From flowers or pollen froth
To wither on a young child’s
Display. Fetch
Me a ribbon, they, all dead
Things scream.

Re: can you stop playing aoe
Be ready to take big L but also try out another game and get into so you lose interest in aoe and do the same in the other game without moving on because it's diff genre and your back to neutral
