Thoughts on gaining more Elo?

Post by callentournies »

Is it a good thing to do?
If I were a petal
And plucked, or moth, plucked
From flowers or pollen froth
To wither on a young child’s
Display. Fetch
Me a ribbon, they, all dead
Things scream.

Gaining elo = winning

Winning <> loser

I don't want to be loser

elo would work if there were no such things as second accounts or smurfs. These have 100% worsened the experience of multiplayer unfortunately and has led to silly threads like this

It's somewhat cringe since it implies you are improving at the game, which means you are playing it somewhat actively, which means you spent time on it that you could've spent playing Go

1. Well gaining ELO means you will be playing vs better opponents and start losing more which is not fun
2. Losing ELO on the other hand leads to playing vs worse opponents which means you will start winning more which leads to gaining ELO which is not fun (see point 1)

Therefore the only way to enjoy this game is to stay exactly where you are.

@aligator92 i think you have accurately captured the sentiment of this community.

honestly i think the only annoying smurf is breeze as his main is 200 elo higher.

Time is elo (axiom) - more smurfs means more opportunities to gain elo, essentially creating more time. We must be ready to accept this as a good thing

Elo is just a number like age

High elo means you are a nerd

LOW elo means you are a shitter

In b/w there's elo called Garja & I choose Garja
