Not to be too pessimistic, but people generally consider aoeII and aoeIV when discussing age franchise. I see lots of forum and reddit posts about which age game they like, and no one mentions aoe3. It is all about aoe2 and aoe4. Even aoe1 gets mentioned sometimes.

I live very close to Heidelberg. Let's start a fundraiser to buy me a nice Knight armor with a sword, shield and a shoulder plate+bracers.
Once I show up in full gear they will change their mind

I was sure D.E. would change that (I had high hopes the tides would turn) but it was rather disappointing because I feel the niche popularity remained basically the same. At least we are periodically receiving new civs, new maps and balances. AOM was more popular and didn't even get a D.E.

We would need a mega patch to kick in the popularity (a new civ, a mega balance patch, several old civs reviewed, old natives reworked (so a big commitment for Tantalus/F.E.), a good promotion from Microsoft, streamers and youtubers doing their thing + a few more stuff). I'm confident that would bring new people for good, but it doesn't look like AOE3 is even reminded by Microsoft Games (except when DLCs are for sale) even before AOE4 was released.

Maybe they do it if they release a DLC at a similar time. Don't know when they release in Italy. They can save a ton of money because for Aoe 4 they can send in some of the same players as for Aoe 2. They only have to pay one ticket for the viper. For all the Aoe 3 players they have to buy a ticket.

Wololo is also on aoe3 so why not? 15 15 15

Unfortunately, my pessimism was correct. It is as if Aoe3 is invisible. Or they really like feudal knights and bows. Or they don't wanna touch a game with deals with guns and colonies and relatively recent history.

Kinda weird. Isn't the aoe 3 player base larger than the aoe 1? I guess it doesn't fit the castle setting. No worries the Aoe 3 tournament will be played in the Ranikot Fort.

AoE1 also has more viewers than aoe2+aoe3+aoe4 combined according to Nili_AoE (MS tournament coordinator). so is playerbase most likely much bigger for same reason. Game is huge in Vietnam. Aoe1 event is hosted by Vietnamese organizer

AoE1 is an absolutely massive esport in Vietnam, yeah.

There are Age Of Mythology and Age Of Empires Online as well.

Well it's been a year and a half that aoe3 is just getting ruined. At the end of the day we basically only have amateur tourneys, no top players left, and ridiculously small viewership on twitch. Not sure why redbull would waste tens of thousands of bucks in this game.

yea, this game has always been the red headed step child and I wouldn’t have been shocked if they’d just skipped over aoe3 for a de. A big tourney would have been cool but at the end of the day I’m glad for what we have been given.

Most likely in my opinion they would have remembered the esoc patch more than the DE. Seriously the sequence is 1,2 and 4? Has 3 as a number been eliminated?

Because it is such an awesome idea to spend 50K in a game made in 1997 with no playerbase (Dont come at me about the vietnam bs)
