Units automatically attack move after right clicking to kill a unit
If you right click skirms to kill a unit, the skirms will automatically issue an attack move command on the spot where the unit died after it dies. Why is this a thing and is there any way I can make this not a thing?

Re: Units automatically attack move after right clicking to kill a unit
When I click a single vill with raiding cav they sometimes attack move.
I thought it was if they couldn’t path to the unit they’d attack nearest, idk.

Isn't this the best solution? I've actually suggested this change last year on official forums.
The previously tried behaviors were to either mindlessly walk to the spot (suicide) or freeze in place (potentially on the other side of the map).

well when raiding you want some stickiness because you target one thing and pathing is a function of time they give up before they can path to hit it
also units still siege when attack moved

I assume this comment refers mostly to callen post but I'd say in general, as a rule of thumb, just don't put any AI assistance. If units get stuck/run in circles/whatever because the path is blocked just let it be. It's up to the player to manually babysit the unit to path through stuff.

I agree with this, I was actually answering to @dicktator_Garja wrote: ↑07 Jun 2022, 21:30I assume this comment refers mostly to callen post but I'd say in general, as a rule of thumb, just don't put any AI assistance. Re: Units automatically attack move after right clicking to kill a unit
It's kind of annoying in treaty because you don't always want to have your ranged units on attack move if you're not pushing or if there are enemy melee units nearby. How it usually worked on EP/TP is that the units would kill the unit they were tasked to kill, then proceed to kill any other units in range while standing still. In laggy games it would bug sometimes but other than that this is what worked best for me. So I guess this was a band aid fix to the DE bug where new batches of units would freeze if added to a control group of units that is then tasked to attack enemy units, this bug didn't exist on legacy iirc. If this solution works best for supremacy players then it's fine, it's almost a non issue since in treaty there's usually not much time to be sniping goons with skirms.

Re: Units automatically attack move after right clicking to kill a unit
This is how it should work. I mean I find it sad that it has been changed intentionally. Units walking after the manual attack command is quite frustrating.dicktator_ wrote: ↑07 Jun 2022, 21:58the units would kill the unit they were tasked to kill, then proceed to kill any other units in range while standing still.
Re: Units automatically attack move after right clicking to kill a unit
I don't have an informed opinion about this yet. What about the case where you're having a group of units on the frontline, now you're adding reinforcements to the group that are still further back, and you task the entire group to attack something. When the target is killed the units already in combat continue fighting as long as there are other enemy units around them, but do you think the units coming in as reinforcements should stop in place since their target is gone?
Re: Units automatically attack move after right clicking to kill a unit
That's how it worked before but it feels pretty bad. So bad that players were reporting it as bug.
Re: Units automatically attack move after right clicking to kill a unit
It's just the most logical thing. If you want to the reinforcement units to regroup just issue another right click as a move command.
Re: Units automatically attack move after right clicking to kill a unit
what? that's not how it used to be before DE?
Re: Units automatically attack move after right clicking to kill a unit
with the right click command yes. With the attack move command they would walk to the point where the command was clicked

Re: Units automatically attack move after right clicking to kill a unit
should the atk move order your units to randomly attack buildings too ?
Re: Units automatically attack move after right clicking to kill a unit
No, before DE they would continue walking to the spot where target unit died. Upon encountering other enemy units while walking there, they would mostly just continue walking and let themselves be killed. Sometimes they'd stop walking after being hit a couple times and then start attacking too (without attack-move active).
So on current DE the change is to attack-move to the spot where target unit died, instead of walking there with this weird not-really-attack-move on RE/EP.
Re: Units automatically attack move after right clicking to kill a unit
Huh. I'm confused. I guess after years of playing the original version maybe I just got used to however units did their thing without even thinking about it. Then, any change to that behavior would be noticed. Even if said behavior is better.

QOL improvement changes aren’t realized as changes until someone goes back.
But if something is different and it’s producing a negative outcome that’ll stick out like a sore thumb.
