Playback Speeds... Rec vs Live Casts
Forever an advocate for normal playback speed. Unwatchable without. It's no one's fault but ya know it is what it is.

Me a ribbon, they, all dead
Things scream.

Re: Playback Speeds... Rec vs Live Casts
Apparently this can still occur observing live matches via game browser, and it's a v-sync, refresh rate issue?

Re: Playback Speeds... Rec vs Live Casts
It's actually mostly about the specs of the PC.

Re: Playback Speeds... Rec vs Live Casts
you can change the frame rate when creating gifs btw

Re: Playback Speeds... Rec vs Live Casts
The frame rates are identical: 25 fps. Both are 12 seconds long.
Any higher framerate and clip duration is severely reduced

I see you wanted them to have the same durationcallentournies wrote: ↑09 Jul 2022, 20:36The frame rates are identical: 25 fps. Both are 12 seconds long.

Re: Playback Speeds... Rec vs Live Casts
It doesnt make sense to compare, because one captured less of the game. The gifs are in phase.

Re: Playback Speeds... Rec vs Live Casts
Well you can see how much less it captured. Seems helpful for comparison.
~7 seconds vs ~12 seconds btw, in-game time.
In-phase was the goal, but because of how they load I suppose it doesn't happen on the browser.
If they had different wavelengths, that'd be more confusing, when repeated viewings are necessary for comparison.

That game was actually a live game not a recording which is actually quite funny.callentournies wrote: ↑09 Jul 2022, 17:45recslow.gif livefast3.gif
Not even a very representative moment to depict just how *different* it is, dulled by gif limits.

For me I personally don't understand how some games in the stream are pefect speed (live games) others are slow (live games) but then also in the slow live games when the live players stop playing the recording goes to normal speed again.
I fully don't understand the incosistency regardless of how I change my settings 144 fps, 60 fps , vsync on or off , low graphics, high graphics it's full random. I also don't understand why certain games decide to prematurely end half way in or in the first 30 seconds and others don't, also very random. One thing I also don't understand is how 1vs1,2vs2,3vs3,4vs4 and other game modes run fine but a 1vs1 recording is where the game decided to draw the line. I also don't understand how age of empires 3 specator mode, can present such issues for any player really. I mean i'm specatating a game, it not like i'm loading up Biggest battle of the century mode. It sucks I have to change my acceleration speed before every recording, It sucks I have to be wary of pausing the game in the first 5 seconds because of a potential bug, It suck that the game playing slower speed etc etc. spectating aoe3 games highkey suck donkey ass, in my experience.
Re: Playback Speeds... Rec vs Live Casts
Feels like it's more up to player settings. Some players keep using vsync

Re: Playback Speeds... Rec vs Live Casts
Well in my case the issue still sometimes occurred with v sync later turned off and framerate locked at either 60 fps or 144.

Re: Playback Speeds... Rec vs Live Casts
Can somene that watches or casts a bunch of games and has never had these issues send me their in game settings? I want to fix this or at least test it out all day.

Anyone have an updated score blocker? Sorry for my crappy overlay. They changed the UI elements up on me.
When in doubt, teepee out!

Re: Playback Speeds... Rec vs Live Casts
All my recs played well, until about 4-5 hours in, then one lagged like hell.
I restarted my PC and it fixed it right up. Guess it's all PC performance.

Re: Playback Speeds... Rec vs Live Casts
My diagnosis is that the game slowly eats up CPU performance and eventually after 4/5 hours or so, your CPU starts running at 100%. This causes it to stop running the games as it is too taxing and doesn't have the ability. It requires a reset to fix. My solution would be for at least 2 people to be involved in a cast. 1 person will be the one running the stream. Then another person opens the game and screen shares to discord. This way the person running the games can reset their PC when it starts running slowly, and the other can keep the stream up, so there is no starting and stopping the stream.

Re: Playback Speeds... Rec vs Live Casts
If it's the game gradually eating up system resources then it should be enough to quit the game, wait for a minute or two to give Steam and the OS time to close all threads and reclaim resources, then start the game again. It should not be necessary to restart the entire computer.
If you notice slowdowns that last beyond restarting the game in this way I would suggest to take a look at your RAM usage in the task manager (performance tab). If you see the amount of available memory shown there go below 20% or so of your total, your OS may be using the disk to extend memory (a process called paging) which expands memory but can significantly slow down overall performance. When memory usage drops the OS will sort this out over time, but not so quickly that a game restart would be enough. A full reboot will fully reset memory so it's possible that's the cause of what you're seeing.
In that case, aside from upgrading hardware memory, the main way to prevent it is to make sure you close all applications and tabs not needed for the stream. This includes background processes you might not think of as applications, such as a Dropbox agent running in the background. The task manager can show you which applications and processes are using particularly large amounts of memory so you can better figure out which ones to close.

I restarted my PC because I wanted to be safe, is all. I have 32 GB of RAM so I hope it isn't that lel

Re: Playback Speeds... Rec vs Live Casts
Me and my mates do this since the release of the game. Every 2 games -> restart. Never checked if they fixed this, we are just so used to the procedure at this point.callentournies wrote: ↑11 Jul 2022, 05:17I restarted my PC because I wanted to be safe, is all. No amount of RAM or cpu performance can make up for badly programmed software. Or in this case it could also be a memory leak.
