How to have a K/D ratio so high?

Hello.

I have played games where some players get a K/D ratio of hundreds or even thousands or units killed and just a few looses.

My question here is... how can someone be so good in unit preservation?

I mean, this game is not too much about unit preservation, or at least I don't find it easy to maintain my units alive.

How can I improve in this and have a K/D ratio so high?

I will let you an image of my last game with a player with high K/D ratio to see what I'm talking about.

Well if you go Cuiriassiers or falconets you'll have a very high K/D ratio, because they are expensive, strong units. If you go strelets or cossack, you'll probably have a low K/D ratio.

Units that fight in the back of armies tend to take less damage, so Skirmisher players in team games will sometimes have high K/D ratios too. Don't measure your effectiveness just by K/D ratio.

it definitely is though. units = resources = villager seconds, therefore keeping your units alive and killing your opponents is functionally equivalent to booming your eco. it's a huge part of winning any game.

the main tip I can say for how to better increase your k/d ratio: force yourself to look at the fight and micro it as hard as possible. I've gotten better at this lately, but for a long time I had a very bad habit where I would start a fight and then immediately look away to manage vills or queue units or something else, with the mindset of "oh well this fight is lost so theres no point in focusing on it too hard" OR "oh well this fight is won so theres no point in focusing on it too hard". both these ways of thinking are WRONG. focus on fights as hard as possible, its one of the most important aspects of the game. micro to squeeze all you can out of every encounter, even if you feel like you've won the fight. you can never punish your opponent hard enough

It's not that important, it's more important to trade well and units like strelets do exactly that.
