Re: no walls
I would maybe be inclined to be generous toward such a tournament. I just do not like the turtle game, when a person win cos he is a turtle and has the stomack for a very loooooooooooooooooooooooooooong game. It just not fun

I think some civs can't beat China or Sioux without Walls.

Re: no walls
Better yet, DE should look into reworking walls finally.

Re: no walls
Hi i really like this idea and should be a community favourite to watch @spanky4ever let us know if you want work with ESOC regarding this.
Re: no walls
@spanky4ever To compliment this it could be open maps only? This would restrict some civs in playability but would be fun to watch.
Also to note - some players may just build multiple markets to wall etc so as long as ur fine with that it could work!

Re: no walls
Haha yeah technically the rules should be more specific on what is not allowed which means we can include this as one as well on it.
However buildings can be placed in obnoxious spots so pathing is harder to give an advantage which is high level things we kinda miss now if no walls are applicable :) .

Re: no walls
so called buildings are costlier than actual cost of walls ,are you really gonna spend 20x amount which does the same job of a regular wall?Don Nameless wrote: ↑18 Apr 2023, 15:18Faith is my shield, what are the walls?

Re: no walls
No, I use my buildings that I build myself to make bottlenecks or blocks, I use market houses, military buildings etc, the British will be the favorites for thisChallenger_Marco wrote: ↑18 Apr 2023, 16:52so called buildings are costlier than actual cost of walls ,are you really gonna spend 20x amount which does the same job of a regular wall?Don Nameless wrote: ↑18 Apr 2023, 15:18Faith is my shield, what are the walls?

Re: no walls
Yeah sure making wall with manor houses is common while manor house booming ,secondly we have seen double market strategy opening b4 being it intentional or accidental it was quite funny and entertaining and you can queue different techs at both markets haha being more efficient.Don Nameless wrote: ↑18 Apr 2023, 17:42No, I use my buildings that I build myself to make bottlenecks or blocks, I use market houses, military buildings etc, the British will be the favorites for thisChallenger_Marco wrote: ↑18 Apr 2023, 16:52so called buildings are costlier than actual cost of walls ,are you really gonna spend 20x amount which does the same job of a regular wall?Don Nameless wrote: ↑18 Apr 2023, 15:18Faith is my shield, what are the walls?

Re: no walls
Making "walls" with buildings is ok. Making tons of walls and winning because of it, is not ok or fair imo. I would just like to c a game where there is no walling. Is all

Re: no walls
Walls have unusually high stats per cost and are the most OP element of the game, even considering construction time.
If you put up many walls, most of the manipulation and tactics will be meaningless
However, the development team just lowered their HP when they switched to DE, and they don't seems to care.
I hope this topic will be discussed more actively.

Re: no walls
Set segment cost to 7-8 wood or more.
Set pillar cost to 2-3 wood.
Increase the HP of pillars, or change how the area damage works when attacking them.
Lower fortified wall HP, or make tech age 4.
Give all true artillery units an additional bonus vs walls. (Age 2 artillery shadow tech in age3)
Building HP cards don't increase wall HP.
Or
Rework walls from the ground up, or go back to the AOM style walls.

Re: no walls
Seems to me that the core issue these days may be that map control isn’t as important anymore.
You could always rely on your opponent needing to leave their base eventually, but perhaps that’s just not the case for newer civs/maps/mechanics.

we need low hunts maps backkevinitalien wrote: ↑22 Apr 2023, 09:12pretty much, and from what iv'seen people don't like if they don't have 3 hunt in base
Re: no walls
Yeah people tend to get stuck in a rut with their favorite maps based on how good the close by resources are. I got so sick of playing large Deccan LOL. I liked the old Sonora map, it was good as it had so many hunts and mines but they were mainly in the middle of the map. I think texas was good for this too? Can't remember.

Re: no walls
You misremember Texas. There were 3 hunts that you could sort of herd and maybe one patch of deer in the center and that was it. A lot of coin mid map though.Snow Lynx wrote: ↑08 May 2023, 10:49Yeah people tend to get stuck in a rut with their favorite maps based on how good the close by resources are. The main issue with Sonora was that often your first hunt was not even in TC LOS so searching for it was a game of luck.
I think Cascade Range and Tassili are good examples of good maps with low amount of resources in base.
