Yes. In fact, that was the first version I bought. Then I bought standalone TAD. Even after TAD existed, the Gold Edition was still sold pretty much everywhere.

Maybe this isn't the intention, but it makes sense to combine them for maximum exposure to all the patches. If someone who heard about DE but didn't know the game, just searched for Age of Empires III, he'd also be exposed to TAD and ESOC patch.

Yeah, I'm happy to see it combined. Those of us who know AoE3 can ignore a nilla game, but this makes it easier for new people to discover stuff being played on TAD (or DE in the future).
