Rapid-Fire MU of the Week #2: USA vs Ottoman
Rapid-Fire MU of the Week #2: USA vs Ottoman
Based on some conversations and high level math in this thread,, we've determined that there are 210 possible civ matchups currently in DE with more to potentially come as a result of new civs. I have missed the old MU of the Month threads from legacy, so I wanted to start something similar. But the only way we are going to get through these MUs in a reasonable amount of time (and before the devs shake everything up with a patch) is by doing this on an expedited timeframe. The other thing I've noticed is that even when there were MU of the Month threads, most answers in the threads came within a few days of the thread being posted-- they were really matchups of the week, with large lulls in between. So instead, I give you, the MU of the Month Week!
You can find all the old MUs here
I've decided to just go ahead and try out a casual, low-stakes MU of the Week threads. There aren't necessarily going to be casted games featuring the civs, unless someone wants to take that on. I think instead, what would be cool is if community members might deign to upload a twitch stream or recorded game of yourself attempting the matchup at some time during the featured week-- if not, that's fine too. Primarily, this thread is meant to be a place to discuss the meta around all the new civs and changes in DE.
This week's matchup is....
Ottoman vs. USA vs What is the meta between these two civs currently?
What is Otto's goal in this MU, and what is USA's goal?
Which civ is favored, and which civ is at a disadvantage?
What maps favor which civ?

Sadly I don't think anyone has a great idea of how this plays out. These civs have an awkward interaction I guess.

Both civs build forts and towers and it transposes into treaty.

Otto goes stagecoach jan abus and USA rolls over and dies.
Re: Rapid-Fire MU of the Week #2: USA vs Ottoman
What if US opens with 3 TP Chinese immigrants and stays age 2 defending them? Otto will be the ones having to siege and state militia are very efficient, especially once the arsenal techs come in.

I would be so happy as USA if my opponent tried that I think you either try to all in rush and siege some houses or ff yourself

Re: Rapid-Fire MU of the Week #2: USA vs Ottoman
i feel like drawn out US have the advantage due to the unit efficiency but they are both so slow in the begining that I sorta dont know how it would go tbh and I have trouble thinking about how US even gets to a drawn out situation
like jan cant fight regulars due to range advantage but abus shit on any age 2 unit that US can muster
So US has to go age 3 to fight otto but if otto also go age 3 does US have any answer to spahi, mamluke or a jan abus falc push?

Usually otto do great vs "infantry civs" (that is civs without cav shipment and/or cav ups in age2) because of poor cav massing and jan abus beating pretty much all infantry combos. USA are a bit unique so there might be some specific aggro build that outplays standard stagecoach jan/abus, but overall I expect them to be at a disavantage in an age2 battle.
The real question is whether the FF beats jan/abus (which I think it's actually possible) and then what if Otto do jan/abus semi FF. Also what about otto FI for unit shipments and finally what about Otto long term play with TCs.
No doubt USA is the better civ in very late game, but that's in a vacuum.

Re: Rapid-Fire MU of the Week #2: USA vs Ottoman
I'm sure it is by itself, but against a 3 TP stagecoach US with only 1 TP for Otto (on a map like Dakota with 4 contestable TPs), are they actually able to contest the sheer mass of state militia?
US has a lot of early shipments early age 2 from Chinese immigrants so Springfield armory and CIR can come early (possibly first shipment in age 2 if no immediate pressure) which makes jans pretty terrible. The goal won't be to win it in age 2, just to keep the 3 TPs safe enough and lose at most 1 while aging.
