In that case the question is why they were going to allow him to compete before the drama unfolded.

If I were a petal
And plucked, or moth, plucked
From flowers or pollen froth
To wither on a young child’s
Display. Fetch
Me a ribbon, they, all dead
Things scream.

Maybe Magnus quitting made them take another look, but then what kind of evidence would they have found now that they wouldn't have before? If it's just some games being a little too perfect, that would've been detected by their anticheat before right?
Re: Chess: Is Hans Niemann a cheater?
How is magnus able to tell that when playing the game in the middle of a tourney? It doesn't add up

I'd have to side with Hans, there's literally no proof of anything. This is ridiculous. Carlsen is just salty he lost to a kid?

I thought Magnus was just going to play a normal match and and maybe comment on the situation after the game.

It makes you wonder how many top Chess players are cheaters and getting away with it

Basically Caruana says existing cheat detection sucks and Chess is dead

Maybe he is just salty for throwing the 2nd place at the candidates?Goodspeed wrote: ↑29 Sep 2022, 14:37https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-SUhtEe26vA

Re: Chess: Is Hans Niemann a cheater?
Only thing i know about cheat detection is whenever i actively play is that chess.com catch 2-3 cheaters a week, and give my precious ELO points back.
As for chess being dead... I doubt it very much. It hit a huge influx due to corona and "The Queens Gambit" tv series.
Those numbers might be declining, but i highly doubt chess is dead, or will ever die.

Ofcourse he's salty for throwing a shot at the world title. During the candidates, Magnus had already said that he would only defend the title against the French wonder kid.

Carujana would mean chess’ competitive integrity is dead, not gross engagement — like AoE3 DE.

Re: Chess: Is Hans Niemann a cheater?
Yes that. But it's not what he said of course, I was liberally paraphrasing to generate drama
Re: Chess: Is Hans Niemann a cheater?
By saying that in reply to my post, you were implying that it was why he was saying the stuff he said in the interview. Which, no.
Re: Chess: Is Hans Niemann a cheater?
Competitive chess is dead. For all we know, the entire top 10 might be cheating.
Hyperbole aside, the point Caruana actually made in the video is worrying: Existing cheat detection is not good enough to catch smart cheaters. The only saving grace is that to be that good at cheating, one has to be very good at Chess as well and good players tend to have integrity. But if the integrity of competitive Chess is entirely reliant on participants' integrity, that's not great. Humans are more known for their opportunism than their integrity.
The good news is that this whole ordeal will spawn a lot of discussion and hopefully innovations in anti-cheat measures that will make it much harder to cheat.
