New Tournament?
New Tournament?
Hai dear Esoc people,
since Ive got an insanely amount of 100! gifted subs by @bahocalyps yesterday, I was thinking how i could use that money for the community for its best and I think to host an own tourney in the upcoming (weeks?) to revive the game at the current state. The question is tho what format its gonna be so I wanted firstly to ask YOU which of the following topics are the best to play/watch:
1) Normal 1v1 Tourney; All Civs allowed, competetive maps, bracketsystem
2) Legacy Tourney on DE like Kaisers; ( legacy-tournament ) Only Legacy Civs,Maps, Bracketsystem
3) Hidden Cup II; ( viewtopic.php?f=466&t=21051&hilit=hidden+cup ) Basically a smurf tournament in which only ONE person knows the players real names and manages the matches (Was very fun to watch on legacy), Bracketsystem
4) 2v2 Tourney; All Civs allowed, competetive maps , bracketsystem
If you have more ideas of tourney, please let me know here, but i think these 4 might be the main ones
And All Thanks to You @bahocalyps to let this happen, youre awesome

Re: New Tournament?
Legacy Style Tourney on DE is a dream come true. Whatever this tourney will become, I support it. It's gonna be a nice alternative to what's happening on ladder atm. Thanks Ezad and thanks Bahocalypse.

Re: New Tournament?
anything with legacy civs
Re: New Tournament?
This is great
but:
I think flat out taking out all new civs is only going to further take ESOC away from the *actual* game, or at least the direction it has taken "officially". This ain't legacy anymore, it's DE and it's the game we have now. Legacy is legacy, DE is DE. Legacy is still up. Fire up nilla like some still do and play that game instead if you want to play Legacy.
Consider:
- main reasons quicksearch is imbalanced are SPAIN being too easy/good, AZTEC (jpc), OTTO (barbary revolt mainly), BRITS (anyone sane will say it's ever the best all round civ). You could make a case for Italy being too good aswell. Stuff like USA is quickly taken care of as the civ is quite average once you explicitly state that the (bugged) FI is banned.
- we might get a significant balance patch in 2 weeks which could further even up the playing field.
That being said I'm fine with anything comes out of this (not so unbiased) thread

Re: New Tournament?
All civs, without civ pick rules (you can play any civ you want as many time as you want).
ESOC : came for the game, stayed for the drama.

spicyyyyyyy I like it too!Le Hussard sur le toit wrote: ↑09 Oct 2022, 19:56All civs, without civ pick rules (you can play any civ you want as many time as you want).
Re: New Tournament?
I prefer legacy 1v1 to both watch and play. Are there any restrictions on elo to participate?
Starsky: Think, always think what you can improve... There is sooo much room for improvement, which most guys simply dont see, because they just use very strong bos and units combos (wws only --> easy and toooo strong). (2006)

Re: New Tournament?
I would like a 1v1 or hidden cup with all civs allowed, but with proper restrictions and bans on necessary cards, revolts etc.
Re: New Tournament?
Legacy or not, this should be decided together with top players in the community, maybe they/you can agree on only certain civ bans or strats, without going completely legacy. Like risotto said, only legacy civs is pretty far removed from the current game, so it brings some incongruity for the viewers and in smaller part for players too. The viewers will watch whatever will seem competitive and somewhat varied. And for those voting legacy in hopes of this bringing kaiser back, I think you are doing so in vain lol.
2v2 tourney could be nice, we haven't had that in a long time afaik.

Re: New Tournament?
yes, like ive said recently we are in 2007-08 territory right now where theres so much unexplored content and the only way to really figure everything out is to have a WCG-like tournament or two that allows all civs with no restrictions. that will force players to learn what is truly OP and how to counter it, and what is just a gimmick that dominates the ladder bc people aren't familiar with it yet. once everything is better understood the game will start to revolve around mechanics again.Le Hussard sur le toit wrote: ↑09 Oct 2022, 19:56All civs, without civ pick rules (you can play any civ you want as many time as you want).

If it's op how can you counter it? It seems counterintuitive.Squamiger wrote: ↑10 Oct 2022, 12:32yes, like ive said recently we are in 2007-08 territory right now where theres so much unexplored content and the only way to really figure everything out is to have a WCG-like tournament or two that allows all civs with no restrictions. that will force players to learn what is truly OP and how to counter it, and what is just a gimmick that dominates the ladder bc people aren't familiar with it yet. once everything is better understood the game will start to revolve around mechanics again.Le Hussard sur le toit wrote: ↑09 Oct 2022, 19:56All civs, without civ pick rules (you can play any civ you want as many time as you want).

Re: New Tournament?
mirrors, same thing that happened in WCG, or the occasional upset civ that people underestimated. it would be a process of clarification that this game sorely needs.Synchro wrote: ↑10 Oct 2022, 14:07If it's op how can you counter it? Re: New Tournament?
the thing is, I don't think it would immediately be a series of mirrors the way that WCG was just japan mirrors over and over, because DE has so much varied and underexplored content. Right now I feel like Ethiopia, Hausa, USA, Mexico, Malta, and Italy are all still potentially OP in ways that people haven't figured out yet, and MAYBE even Sweden and Inca still too. Plus there's the fact that civs like Brits, Aztec, China, Russia, Haud, Spain, and even Otto with barbary revolt now would possibly be top civs. Eventually the tourney might become a series of mirrors in later rounds, but I think it's not actually clear what civs the mirrors would consist of just yet. Any of the civs I named above could potentially be things you would want to spam over and over in rounds where there are no civ pick restrictions, depending on what you are experienced with and what you think your opponent will choose. The only way to find out is to let people have the freedom to take a gamble on what is most abusable. That's how the meta would progress.
civ pick restrictions require players to have deep civ pools, which means that if your civ pool is slightly different from your opponents, with all the new stuff you just get gimmicked and surprised every now and then. too many games in recent tourneys come down to one player just not really knowing what to expect and losing because they didn't predict the build order. zero civ restrictions would mean that you couldn't just rely on your opponent only being able to play a gimmick civ once. you'd have to work out and learn the top builds

Re: New Tournament?
hidden cup with all civs allowed is not easy to set up
family sharing in steam only allows you to use the base game, not dlc. so it's easy to do with the base 16 civs, but not the new ones.

I wouldn't say that, the opposite is possible.hausaenjoyer wrote: ↑10 Oct 2022, 16:52hidden cup with all civs allowed is not easy to set up

Re: New Tournament?
In order for mirrors to be played, everyone is on par with everything and whoever has the most skills wins. For the rest, if you know the game well, you get on with everything if you don't know the game properly you don't know what to do.Squamiger wrote: ↑10 Oct 2022, 15:32the thing is, I don't think it would immediately be a series of mirrors the way that WCG was just japan mirrors over and over, because DE has so much varied and underexplored content. If balance is an issue, give me a list of changes and I'll make a patch.MaxMagous wrote: ↑09 Oct 2022, 18:21
