Reviving ep

Post by Hazza54321 »

Is there any possibility of reviving ep?

Nowadays it feels like theres alot of players that would rather play ep than de and was wondering if it was possible to revive it.

Thoughts?

gotta be the change you want to see. Stream some EP games, hold an EP tournament, etc. etc.

Having a long term stable migration to EP is probably too ambitious but smaller goals are very achievable.

Yeah an ep tournament is not a bad idea

I really miss EP sup, there may be a bit of nostalgia involved but it's difficult to explain to people who weren't active during that time how much better the games were back then. I don't think EP can ever go back to being active to the point of being able to just log on and see who's on, knowing you can eventually get a game. You'd have to message people to set up the games, but yea I think it'd be possible to at least get some EP games pretty regularly.

There are also some things that are convenient about DE, like fairly active ranked matchmaking and peer to server, that kind of allow people to put up with the DE bs and make going back to EP a bit less attractive. I think a mod on DE that basically deletes the extra civs and reverts the legacy civs and maps back to how they were on EP would have a better chance at succeeding, but that would be hard to make.

It's not that hard to do really, just needs changing some values in the xml files and updating with each patch. Not too bad when there's 1-2 patches a year anyway. However it doesn't offer much more than a lobby game where you don't do the broken stuff, so I doubt it would get used.

It would be good to have a map pack that doesn't have gimmicky or chokey maps in.

I support reviving EP if it also means shunning all discord / twitch communication and going back to forum flaming and rec reviews

Fantastic idea, what use do we need a DE abandoned by the devs themselves, now messed up with blasphemous and unfunny things. I would gladly watch an EP tournament even just an EP implemented in DE if possible, even playing on EP wouldn't be bad, DE is tired and the nostalgia for the old days prevails, on the other hand I will only return to play if there is a return to EP or a EP on DE.
Note: DE legacy tournaments are not the same as EP and don't have the same effect, I would rather watch the 2019 LAN than a DE tournament, legacy or not.

arguments in favor of de:
- less lag
- can't send eco theory + exotic hardwoods at 0:00

- if a player spawns 100 minutemen in tournament game, the opponent may notice
- map hack: better argument... but if it's possible to send cards at 0:00 whos to say there's no MH on EP?

- lag: not addressed

actually it was basically not possible to cheat on the latest iteration of EP, while I'm not sure about DE where it seems even basic cheats are completely viable

like, play legacy + EP instead of DE or copy/paste the notes from EP to DE with a mod or something?

see my signature. competitive aoe3 was destroyed in order to sell dlc.

I just hope DE is not going to implement all of the EP changes. Right now it is a big clusterfuck.

If EP wouldn't have halted development and continued I'm sure it would have had very similar changes to what we have with DE today. Apart from the extra civs of course.

Say what you want about EP development but it was much more cautious and grounded than what the DE developers came up with.

What is DE today without extra civs and features?

we spent years debating whether uhlans should have 180, 181, 185 and 190hp and you think ep would implement a civ like mexico or retarded revolts that can get eco back with overpowered units? What planet are you on

EP was so much better indeed. Additional arguments in favor of EP:

- pathing
- units don't get stuck in TP's
- A real observer UI
- Less bullshit on every map
- The multiplayer UI actually works
- no need to restart after every 2nd game
- no broken Decks every month after they changed every card for a civ

Potential arguments in favor of DE:

- the spam invite guy can't DDOS you

If ESO is still up then I think this is worth investing resources into. Not a *lot* of resources. But maybe a few.

Wanted to play AoE3 for nostalgia reasons a while ago, downloaded DE, played a few games and uninstalled that same day. It was not the experience I was looking for because of how new everything was. I might be up for some games on EP, @ me

Obviously it's not perfect. But I'm 100% sure pathing is worse now (and other unit control stuff like attack move, or they way 2 groups of units get stuck in each other nowadays and then refuse to move). Happens so many times that some units accept to go through a small gap only if you babysit them, that didn't use to be the case, I get this as dutch so many times on DE.

I mean pathing isn't as good on DE but it's pretty good for an RTS. My main gripe has gotta be the design of the new DLC civs and other whackass changes.

I remember someone once saying that ESOC could make its own ESO. Where you at now boys
