Enable “easy drag military” in settings. Holding ctrl and dragging will either select or deselect vills with your military units in the same box.

There is a hotkey that when pressed will select every unit of the same type that you have currently selected no matter where they are on the map.
Hotkeys -> Find Unit Hotkeys -> Find All Of Selected Type
