Nvidia App FPS cap won't work on ESOC patch but works on official
OS: WinWin10x64 19045.3803
Patch version: 9.0.0.1-UC1
Source: installer
Problem: I have a GTX1060 6GB and it can produce more than 3xx fps if not capped, wasting electricity and warming up my room for no reason!
At first, I capped it with Vsync and it succeed but it will only go to 60fps no matter the choosen refresh rate in the in-game settings. This is true for both UC & official.
Then, I tried the Nvidia App fps cap. It only works with the official one. The 2 small notification popups saying "Win+G" to capture & "Alt+Z" to open nvidia overlay is only triggered by the official one. It seemed the modified exes are not recognized as gaming programs.

I cannot understand all the tech language that you are using, and maybe keep it simple? I have gtx 1660 and it works smoothly on aoe3 DE. Could b you need to update a little?
The 1660 will not be overheating, if you have a good cooling system. I can recommend it.

Hippocrits are the worst of animals. I love elifants.

I believe they're on the ESOC patch, which isn't DE. They're asking how to limit fps when playing an older game where the executable isn't "officially" recognized by Nvidia.
I'm truly sorry OP, I don't use nvidia cards. I wouldn't know where to start helping you with this one, the answer is probably going to be some sort of 3rd party app. Maybe Dolan would know better.

You could use a program like MSI Afterburner that undervolts the GPU, which indirectly achieves the same thing. And you could tweak that to find the right setting that fits the use case.

I actually do downclock my GPU for games that are easy to run, now that I think of it. Totally a good way to go.
