Is pr30 too low?I'm a bit busy but for my good friend Benjamin I could make time although I would guess some higher tier players will volunteer.

Two strong players, yes.

I must say I am pretty hyped for this event, although it might be hard to see the effect of the colonial age start since there are so many other changes. Colonial age start, blind civ picks before start of the series, non-standard maps like Deccan and Mongolia. It's going to be a wild ride. Image

Interjection wrote:The map pool is not set in stone yet and I'm still open to suggestions. I will delete this message once it has been decided.
I would personally like to see the effect of a colonial age start on interesting maps like Cascade Range (low hunt) or Klondike/High Plains (lots of fighting about the trade route).

I kind of want to strategize about the consequences of starting in age 2, but not sure if Inter is okay with doing that in this thread? The biggest consequences are probably that everyone is in age 2 with (about) the same economy & at the same time, that there are no age-up bonuses or politicians (no wonders, second town center for Ports, free travois or tower) and that you can attack the enemy right from the start. Portugese are probably completely useless and I think Spain/Germany are a lot stronger by having plentiful/powerful shipments early on. Would love to hear some speculations from top players, but perhaps they don't wanna share their knowledge before this Smackdown takes place. Image

Feel free to discuss whatever you like here :). I've heard Ottoman might be really powerful too.

I'm open to changing the map pool, the original thought process was have a selection of classic 'Smackdown' maps - these were some of Zuta's favorites.

But I'm definitely up for picking maps which will create more interesting games

Makes sense. I definitely remember Hudson Bay (although it was saguenay back then) and Siberia. Didn't know Deccan was played often, it's a bit of a different map.

Probably going to include high plains & and some low res maps.

Will also need to get the RE maps sorted with UI functionality. Will need deccan for sure, the others I might just remove since it's more work

Thanks for posting everyone, I'm hoping to schedule @Kaiserklein & @Diarouga for this first event. In future, I'm more interested in scheduling players of even skill level than anything else (so PR doesn't matter, but obviously higher level games will usually take priority). We'll get new players on next week but the winner will be invited to play again - king of the smackdown. Might get a sort of Smackdown league going

Here is the finalized map pool. The RE maps were removed as we don't have UI versions of them except for Deccan.

MAP POOL

Game 1: Deccan
Game 2: High Plains
Game 3: Kamchatka
Game 4: Pampas Sierras
Game 5: Florida
Game 6: Klondike
Game 7: Hudson Bay
