Suggestion: What if there was such a thing as team bonuses on this game?
Before anyone here plays smartass: I mean that as in, BESIDES the shipments, thank you very much. Those of you who played AoK know what I am talking about: Bonuses that every civilization, and any ally of that civilization, will start off by default. I know it is probably not the most original idea, but it could be a simple thought for a mod. Assuming, that is, any of you actually both knows how to mod and is interesting in the concept, as I have zero modding skills whatsoever. Anyway, a few suggestions:
Aztecs: Heavy Infantry units move 10% faster
Britain: Aging up is 15% cheaper.
Chinese: All buildings have 20% more HP.
Dutch: Plantations cost half the wood to make
French: Cavalry units have 10% more hitpoints
Germans: All units have 10% more attack but have 5% less hitpoints( Note: Not sure about the latter. I just kind of noticed the Germans seem to have a bit of a focus around "glass cannon-ish" units, so... )
Iroquois: Increase the build limit of all Native units by 50%
Indians: Settlers/Villagers are trained 10% faster
Japanese: Fishing Boats gather 10% faster
Ottomans: Upgrades at the Mosque/Church/Monastery are 50% cheaper OR( For Native civilizations only ) all technologies are 10% cheaper.
Portuguese: All Light Infantry units gain a extra x0.25 Attack bonus against heavy infantry units( Clarification: The bonus is additive. What I mean by that is that, for a example, Skirmishers of the Portuguese allies would have a x2.25 Attack bonus against heavy infantry instead of x2. )
Russians: All cavalry units cost 10% less resources( Like their own "bonus" where their infantry units are cheaper but weaker. But without the weakening this time. )
Sioux: All Cavalry units move 10% faster

Honestly I'm not sure I like this mechanic in the first place, it feels kinda confusing to me to receive these random bonuses out of nowhere.

Leave AoE2 where it is. AoE3 has TEAM cards and thats cool

Yeah I mean, there's already enough bonuses from shipments and unique civ designs. Don't need to add more weird stuff on top, it will just make the game even harder to balance

I suggested that some weeks ago for the treaty patch since there are team cards removed, still people did not like that idea.

Like said above, the purpose of this in AoE2 is to bring more diversity to nations, which are virtually the same.
Furthermore, compare the suggested Dutch bonus to the French one and you've already have a pretty concerning imbalance (Imperial Cuirassier anyone?).

The only things i would ever want to see as team bonuses would be really small things. I dont like the mechanic in general outside of team cards but like something small like "market upgrades 15% cheaper" or "resource crates contain 5% more resources" would be the furthest i would ever want to see it go. Nothing super long term or unit related that can be stacked and/or abused. The last thing this game needs is more excuses for france to mass cavalry lol

I think team cards were the devs' attempt to carry over the team bonus idea from AoE2. Unfortunately it's a balancing nightmare, since some civs have way better cards than others. Dutch get team cheap market upgrades while Russia gets the infantry training card that lets everyone on your team insta-train units, lol.
It's a shame that the few team cards that are available are either useless or broken because it's a really interesting concept.

Well by definition it's just impossible to balance team cards, since their strength will depend on the amount of players. They will most of the time be too strong in 3v3, good in 2v2, and underwhelming in 1v1.

but then again, there are different means to deal with such shenanigans if you have 3 distinct players on your team
