having trouble finding games on the ESOC Patch, and i think having an IM channel might assist with that.

this is actually a good idea.

I think this has been suggested before. I like it, but itd surely be a pain to moderate.

just have the admins assign some community mods, who volunteer for the job, to keep the spam away. the channel doesn't have to be anything extensive, just a simple chatroom that allows people to communicate when they want to play/ have games up. I suggest attaching an IRC.LC to ESOC, due to its simplicity.

Basically just a twitch chat on the forums would be nice.

If I am not mistaken, moving from proboards should make things cheaper and better.

This should be possible and I'm willing to help creating a simple chat, but it's all up to what people want to have.

As for moderating we could just have a built-in voting system to kick/timeout people. And a spam filter etc.. Shouldn't be too difficult if the purpose is just finding people to play with.

We have a few ideas floating around about this in regards to the esoc patch.

Last time it was proposed we decided against it because it would be a general chat.
