Format

The playoffs will take place as a single-elimination tournament, with the Round of 8 and Semi-finals being played as Best-of-5s leading to a Grand Finals played as a Best-of-9. Qualifier matches will be played with the same rules as the RO8/Semi-finals. The seeding for the playoffs is arranged first by Season 1 Points and second by 1v1 JP ELO.

Map Pool, Map Rules and Civilization Rules

Round of 8 and Semi-finals Map Pool (Bo5)
Fertile Crescent / Great Basin / Bonnie Springs / Gran Chaco / Hudson Bay / Florida / Alaska

Grand Finals Map Pool (Bo9)
Mendocino / Iowa / Kamchatka / Herald Island / Colorado / Arizona / Parallel Rivers / Thar Desert / Baja California / Manchuria / Florida / Alaska / Cascade Range

Map & Civilization Rules
For Game 1, players will veto maps in alternating fashion until just 1 map remains. The higher seed player will initiate the vetoing. The last map remaining will be the map played upon for Game 1.

After Game 1, the winner of the previous match will ban a single (1) map from the map pool, or two (2) maps if it is the Grand Finals. The loser of the previous match will then select a map from the remaining pool to be played and the winner will lock his civilization. The loser will then choose his civilization and the next game will commence.

There will be no civilization resets during a series. After you've used a civilization, it may not be used again.

[spoiler=Example flow of map rules]Example Bo5: Fertile Crescent / Great Basin / Bonnie Springs / Gran Chaco / Hudson Bay / Florida / Alaska

Cool. I like this event format, overall. In the future, however, I hope it will be done in addition to, rather than in replacement of, actual tournaments. That's the best way to encourage play and promote the competitive scene.

Good work and thanks to everyone involved, in any way.

Do we need to wait until they play their qualifier to get the brackets? Out of curiosity

It's good to have something different every now and then. If ESOC just hosts the same tournament with the same players twice a year every year, people will eventually get tired of it and stop participating/watching. Others might disagree but I think overload is a serious risk if too many tournaments are hosted one after another with little time in between them. Interspersing them with more casual events like this prevents tourney overload while still giving people something to get hyped for.

Not that I disagree about the idea of having some variety, but regardless I don't think you can say that it's always the same players in tourneys. There's some newer players, who still reach stuff like RO8, so it brings some change. There's also some players getting better, some others getting rusty, some signing up only in some tourneys. I don't think tourneys are always the same.

If we have another big tournament Tedere could make it to the t8 and we can't have that again.

Despite weird point system, these names seem worthy of a top8 so that worked out fortunately. If dicktator hadnt done so well in the sup tournaments too, there might have been controversy. Fortunately for the staff members, he showed that even as a sup player he deserves to be here and that he didnt ride TR/deathmatch tournaments to qualification.

If kynesie lags his way to victory I will make a riot.

I feel like semi finals should be BO7. It's how it is usually in every big tourney (and playoffs are kind of a big tourney since it's the conclusion of the series of weekend tourneys), and it would make a logical progression from quarters to finals. Not a big deal though

I think finals should be a BO7.

To whoever suggested it, I think a major tournament and this season running simultaneously would be way too much going on.

Streams every Sunday gets to be too much for me to keep up with as is, not to mention player and caster fatigue that would result.

I've always been a fan of some kind of ongoing league in the background, that doesn't really get streamed but is just to promote competitive play.
