Re: Freetalk Friday 1
u9793 I started reading "The myth of the rational voter" by your boy Bryan Caplan in which he apparently makes the argument that democracy sucks and we should all pray to the free market. After about 20 pages, far from being convinced, I instead came to the conclusion th...

Re: Israeli-Palestinian conflict
Something can be honorable and still stupid. Suicide to improve things is stupid simply because you're not going to see any of the improvements, even if it is the best way to improve things, which is highly debatable in most instances. Sidenote: Your tone has been very hostile to everyone who dares ...

Re: Other RTS videogames
Are you married to the "real-time" part of RTS? :chinese: Company of heroes is indeed very similar to dawn of war, it's pretty much the same game with different units. You could try beyond all reason. It's not very competitive and 1v1s are not interesting, but the teamgames are nice and th...

https://huggingface.co/papers/2402.04494 The point of this paper, which is clear from the abstract and stunningly missed by almost all the comments (guys, no one has intrinsically cared about superhuman chess performance since roughly 2005), is that imitation learning can scale even in domains where...

Re: European politics
it does beggar the question. at what point are russia's interests so misaligned with the west's that they needed to start the war? you could make an argument about ideology when it was USSR v West/USA. but these days? ask the question the other way around. why must nato continually encroach on russ...

If we consider "trying to take over the government" a necessary part of the definition of insurrection then no it's not an insurrection. If we don't, then it is. Of course, Jan 6 was an insurrection either way.

Re: US Politics Megathread
Is this where your aggressive neutrality is going to stand in the way of objectivity again? Regardless of people's views, there is only one legitimate winner of a presidential election. If the loser organizes an insurrection to illegally take the presidency, that may be considered legitimate by some...

Re: US Politics Megathread
1) If the insurrectionist is popular enough to win the presidential election, it's unrealistic that congresspeople who answer to the same voters would then immediately remove him. Not only that but it doesn't make sense to call something an insurrection if there's a political majority supporting it...

Re: US Politics Megathread
Listening to oral arguments, from early on it's clear that the justices' main focus is on whether or not states have the power to enforce amendment 14 section 3. And it sounds like the majority opinion will be that they don't, which would overturn CO's decision. From hearing the justices' questions ...
