Slinging in team games
Is it a legit strategy in AoE3? In AoE2 it is way too powerful, probably because it is very easy to wall and be totally safe.
Also, is there a tribute fee in AoE3? There are no techs that reduce it so i assume that if it actually is there, it's not very significant.

You don't even need a market to do that. The troll sepoy renegado sling rush done by Octanium and site popped up into my mind. http://eso-community.net/viewtopic.php?f=20&t=9742

Yes, you have to pay 11 (or 12 if it's the first „batch") more resources each time you tribute 100 — unlike in AoC, any upgrades don't affect it. You can do some powerful strats, especially when your opponents don't make out what's going on. I have two almost identical recs in mind from Strong World 2016 — France slingling Ottomans (@EAGLEMUT ):

Another sling but in very unique circumstances — viewtopic.php?f=137&t=6065
Unfortunately, the recording is broken and the stream video is lost — some of you may remember it, though. Bobabu and HerrKnight played vs Veni and Stanley on KnB Alps.

There was a sling in team 1, one player walled off the crossings (I think there were two separate between each valley, unlike on the screenshot), while the other quickly advanced to the Industrial Age for Trade Monopoly. It was great!
How is the balance worked around that in AoC, though? What are the counter-builds?

Re: Slinging in team games
I saw this topic, saw Pecelot posted and thought it was "singing in team games".
Re: Slinging in team games
Sorry for a double-post, will merge it later on.
The last mentioned game was played on this custom version of Alps, way before it was implemented in the EP.
I'll attach the map files, too, so that you can get the idea of what the game looked like

Re: Slinging in team games
Perhaps the French
Re: Slinging in team games
In aoe3 unit shipments are a big chunk of your power spike, so it's generally just better to have two people in fortress age than one in industrial and one in discovery basically. It's also somewhat harder to quickly boom up because TCs and vills are somewhat more limited than in aoe2, for as far as I can tell.

I saw breeze/ageofkiller play otto and get boosted a few times in 3v3 with them into an age 4 revolt. Seemed rather successful from the couple of times I saw it on stream.
