Project Celeste is releasing the game free for all users right off the bat without options to pay real money for anything - therefore completely circumventing pretty much everything talked about on the GDC, as it was mostly about the failed business model of the game.

Exactly! The devs can focus on new content and features for a game they love, without being forced to think of new ways to milk money out of the users. It's great

Well, I can say why the game failled at me, and I believe it was the same reason for a lot of people.

At the time I got into de "beta" from aoeo, played a lot of that single player 'quests', and buying the game would be just the obvious action for me.
But when the game actually released the only pvp avaiable was with 'gear' upgrades taking affect, Well I COULD buy the packs and upgrades and whatever to get competitive, and then they could release another patch on the following day that I would be forced to buy to keep competitive.... so I just said NOPE and went back to aoe3.

I didnt even heard of it when they got skirmish or champion mode into the game, it was just to late to save the game.

Similar for me. I also got sad that my glorious beta homecity was wiped for the live release

The graphics is probably the worst I have ever seen, not to mention that its basically impossible to watch a stream and understand whats going on. How people prefer this to AOE3 is beyond me.

Moral of the story:
People have different interests and there a lot of aoe2 players who cant understand how you are able to enjoy playing aoe3 aswell.

That does not change the fact that the graphics in AOEO is utter shite, unless you are 10 years old.
