That's one way to take what I said out context.
To be honest, I doubt that money would have been raised at all unless it was for charity.

So you're saying you would rather have money go straight to the pocket of a 1st world nerd who doesn't worry where his next meal is gonna come from or whether or not his illness is gonna be treated just so you can get a bit of enjoyment out of it rather than it go towards providing a malnourished 3rd world child with worms and cleft pallet meals and Healthcare? That's astonishingly small minded, self absorbed, and straight up disgusting. "What does esoc get out of it" I'm literally shaking my damn head at you right now.aaryngend wrote:Interjection wrote:As much as I love helping charity, these kind of things have an enormous diminishing returns, I think yearly would be optimal for this community (at least by the same people)
i agree, helping charities is nice, but what does ESOC get out of it ? Would rather spend this amount scattered among several tournament prize pools.

Woah no, I didn't mean that, more like crowdfunding your own tournament? Oh and sorry Interjection if I took your comment and put my own opinion on it.gibson wrote:So you're saying you would rather have money go straight to the pocket of a 1st world nerd who doesn't worry where his next meal is gonna come from or whether or not his illness is gonna be treated just so you can get a bit of enjoyment out of it rather than it go towards providing a malnourished 3rd world child with worms and cleft pallet meals and Healthcare? Charities are great if aloooot of people donate... like those bigtime events or streamers who raise a couple of hundred thousands or up to a million.
My comment should be read along the lines of "since we won't gather alot of $$, the donations of the players here can also be used as the tournament prize pool, etc."
Like have a % of those donations flow into charity.. not all of it! Use the rest for ESOC. I doubt ESOC is in a place where you can just give away everything.
I am not talking on my behalf.. i am not ESOC, nor wil i win any tournament. Just giving food for thought

How is it only great if you raise a million? Did you not read how many meals they make out of a single dollar?
The goal of the event was specifically to raise for charity and not for tournaments. And thats what people donated for. If people wanted to donate towards a future tournament they would have done so on any ESOCTV stream which is the common way to donate for future tournaments.
So I am afraid your food for thought is rotten.

Not sure about that argument, if people wanted to donate for that, they could donate to any other "Doctors without borders" event too. Since this was ESOC-centric, I thought it was a %-based amount, seems not.
Rotten food is still better than no food!

The point of giving to charity is not to get something out of it.

What exactly will happen?
A bunch of gender neutrals sitting in a basement playing video games, while raising money to charity?
And last time you managed to raise a whooping $1800?
I get the noble thought and all that jazz... but please... this could ALMOST look like you did this to make yourselves look good rather than actually attempting to make an impact. Yea, every penny counts I guess.

This isn't very nice Would you rather people stream and just keep any money that is given to them? I like the idea of streaming for charity. We're going to nerd out anyway so we may as well do some good with it. Why be so negative? $1800 is actually quite a lot of donations to receive considering that it wasn't well advertised last year, it's a very small community, and they're playing an old and relatively unknown game.
