vill bugs with walls
vill bugs with walls
When I want to build a wall, my settlers use to bug. They don't always build the wall that i've ordered to build and they follow doing their activity. Also, sometimes the camera moves super fast when i click on building a wall with vills. Does someone know how to solve this ?
Thanks
Thanks
Re: vill bugs with walls
maybe a pathing issue? they can't go to where you want to build the wall?
i'm not sure
i'm not sure
Re: vill bugs with walls
Personally, I noticed that they build walls in weird ways sometimes, like building only longer segments at first and then finishing all the short ones, which is really time-wasting.

Re: vill bugs with walls
yeah this bug happens all the time, especially in treaty. Usually they just stop building them and just stay there idle
Re: vill bugs with walls
vills in both AoE2 & 3 have some OP logic at times

Not sure about the camera, don't think that ever happened to me.
The wall building behavior I'm quite familiar with and I think it's not really a bug but an intended feature that can sometimes be confusing.
Basically imagine you're always holding SHIFT by default when you're building a wall. When you task a villager on some gold mine and then tell him to build a wall, he will first want to finish gathering up all that gold while the "wall build plan" waits in queue, exactly the same behavior as if you would have held SHIFT. I believe this is intended to make building walls easier, since you usually do want to queue building wall segments like that, instead of how you build all other buildings. It does get confusing when the selected villager is already tasked on another job and needs to finish it first. What I do is first cancel the villager's current action and then go on building a wall. In treaty I usually still use SHIFT manually anyway, since I want to optimize the villager's path to build multiple layers and prevent them from walling themselves in (build wall -> walk out -> build another layer -> walk out -> ..).
Yo, this is me sharing some top-level game knowledge I assume most people either don't know about or don't act upon. Hopefully the treaty crowd won't see this, then I might not be TOP2 player anymore.

This happens when you task more than one vill to build a long wall. They will split their jobs, some only building long sections while others only building short sections. Therefore the wall will not be built symmetrically and some vills can get stuck in the process. Personally I dislike this behavior and always task just one vill at a time to build long walls.

This usually means you've build the wall foundation in such a way that the villager got stuck along the way, walled himself in and can't find a path out to finish the wall. When a path exists but requires too much backtracking a vill might refuse to do that as well and get stuck. To prevent this you should always make sure the villager is building your wall from the inner side and not build multiple layers simultaneously in similar positions, as the next layer might get him stuck.

In AoE2 back in the day I remember AI would very often just die by wasting all of their villagers in desperate efforts to rebuild their walls. It's like wall rebuilding was top at their priority list even if they already lost 40 vills there and had their last villager remaining. Actually I just quickly googled this and it seems like the issue was so huge they completely removed wall building from AI in the HD edition, lol.

Indeed, I do that now that I know it, whenever I play treaty. It's the most effective way!
AoC original bot walled across its half of the map, which was pretty weird and unrealistic. What pisses me more now, though, is that when a resources drop-off point is built, like lumbercamp, mill or mining camp and the villagers are automatically tasked to the nearest resource of this type (so let's say wood if you build a lumbercamp), they have very weird pathing, as it's programmed that only one vill can gather from one resource spot (so one piece of gold/stone, one berry bush, one tree etc.). It's annoying as they bump into each other looking for a ,,free" place to gather from.

Vill stops building one normal straight wall and there is a lot of space. When I build it before treaty expires around my city everything goes smoothly, but after treaty expires, you wall the map without making the walls narrow and deleting the pillar, and they usually stuck.

Yea, after treaty expires there's not really enough time to build walls carefully piece-by-piece. Are sure there're a lot of space? Could be a stray tree or something that gets in the way and makes your villie stuck.

I'll pay close attention next time and take SS when it happens

After treaty vills and units get stuck all the time because the game cant handle that many units.

True, this can be another factor if some players don't have the best PCs.
